Chocolate Cake with Wine

  • 2/3 cup Castor Sugar
  • 2/3 cup Dark Chocolate
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 80 milliliters Raspberry/Red Wine
  • 2/3 cup Flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 2 Eggs


  1. Preheat oven to 180 c. Grease and line an 8 inch baking tin.
  2. In a saucepan, mix together butter, sugar, chocolate and wine. Put on medium heat till all ingredients melt together.
  3. Remove from heat and set aside. Remove 70 ml of this mixture and set aside.
  4. Add all your dry ingredients to the above mixture and whisk well to ensure no lumps.
  5. Beat eggs separately and fold in to the above mixture. Mix well and pour into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Allow to cool slightly, then remove from the pan.
  7. While still hot, pour the set aside 70ml wine mix over the cake, evenly. Allow the cake to fully absorb it.
